[ARCHIVED] MANGANO HONORS JOSEPH BORELLI AS NASSAU COUNTY’S SENIOR CITIZEN ‘MAN OF THE YEAR’

JOSEPH BORELLI

Mineola, NY - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced that Joseph Borelli is Nassau County’s 2016 Senior Citizen “Man of the Year.” Joseph was presented an award at the 42nd Annual May Conference in Observance of Older Americans Month on May 19th at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale. The Nassau County Office for the Aging hosted 400 residents in attendance at this special event.

“It is my distinct honor to present Joseph as Nassau County’s 2016 Senior Citizen ‘Man of the Year’,” said County Executive Mangano. “His dedication to underprivileged children makes him truly deserving of the recognition accorded to him.”

Joseph grew up in East Harlem, and joined the Boys Club at a young age. In 1961, he married his wife, Louise, and moved to Valley Stream. They have three daughters and 5 grandchildren. He remembers all the childhood memories that the Boys Club gave him. These memories left an indelible impression on him as an underprivileged child, and he vowed he would always work to give back to the riches the Boys Club bestowed on him. He is a very active member of the Boys Club Alumni Association, and has organized innumerable events in both New York and Florida to raise funds to provide sports equipment, musical instruments, and trips for these children who otherwise would not have the means.

In addition to all the great work Joseph does for the Boys Club, he is an active member and contributor to the Long Island Society of Italian Americans and the Loyal Order of the Moose.

Joseph is a firm believer that our future lies in the hands of our youth. He regularly speaks to children at all of the Boys Club Houses about the importance of staying out of trouble and how to be a good citizen. He lives by this example. This is what the Boys Club taught him, and it gives him joy to give back.
