[ARCHIVED] Legislator Ellen Birnbaum Supports Long Island Cares’ Eighth Annual Legislative Pet Food Drive

Legislator Birnbaum - Legislative Pet Food Drive

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) is proudly participating in Long Island Cares’ eighth annual Legislative Pet Food Drive and invites residents to join her in supporting Baxter’s Pet Pantry.

Donors are welcome to contribute food for all pets, including but not limited to reptiles, fish, ferrets and hamsters. Five or 10-pound bags of dog and cat food; canned dog and cat food; kitty litter, treats and new toys are always in high demand. Organizers say donations of pet food - cat food in particular - are especially needed.

“Throughout my life, I have been an animal lover and cherished the joy they brought to our family. However, when we work to assist families facing hard financial times, we cannot leave any member of the household behind,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “That is why the services provided by Baxter’s Pet Pantry are so important, and I am pleased to once again stand with Long Island Cares as a participant in their annual Legislative Pet Food Drive.”

Residents can make contributions at: The Herricks Community Center, 999 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park, N.Y. 11040 (Mon. - Fri. 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Saturdays 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.); the Great Neck

Social Center, 80 Grace Avenue, Great Neck, N.Y. 11021 (Mon. - Fri. 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.); and the Great Neck Park District via Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Avenue, Great Neck, N.Y. 11024

(Mon., Wed. and Fri. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Thursday 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and

Sunday 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.). All pet food must be unopened and its original packaging. No opened bags, ripped bags or loose pet food will be accepted. For additional information, contact Long Island Cares at 631-582-
