Legislator Joshua A. Lafazan Invites Residents to Nominate Children Who Are Making a Difference in their Communities for Recognition

as Part of the Second Annual “Kids of Distinction Awards” Ceremony

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - For the second consecutive year, Nassau County Legislator Joshua A. Lafazan (Woodbury) will recognize 25 exceptional young people for their excellence in academics, athletics, and dedication to service and making a difference in their communities during the second annual Kids of Distinction Award Ceremony on Tuesday, May 5.

To expand the reach of the contest in its second installment, Legislator Lafazan’s office is working with residents, teachers, and community leaders to identify opportunities for submission inviting those families to enter their children in the contest.

Hamlets and villages within the 18th Legislative District include: Bayville, Brookville, Centre Island, Cove Neck, East Hills, East Norwich, Glen Head, Greenvale, Lattingtown, Laurel Hollow, Locust Valley, Matinecock, Mill Neck, Muttontown, Old Brookville, Oyster Bay, Oyster Bay Cove, Syosset, Upper Brockville, and portions of Woodbury and Jericho.

“The purpose for creating the Kids of Distinction Awards program last year was to establish a tradition that spotlights the countless ways young people are adding vitality, beauty and compassion to the world through philanthropy and civic service,” Legislator Lafazan said. “By working with residents, teachers and civic leaders during this second year, we’re hopeful that the contest will grow even further and give our community’s young people a stage that is built to be all their own. I will always stand proudly in recognition of the young community leaders that are so dedicated to making this a better world.
