[ARCHIVED] Legislator Lafazan Applauds $12M Grant to Jericho Water District

(JERICHO, N.Y.) - On Thursday, June 22, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the Jericho Water District will receive a $12,115,200 Water Infrastructure Improvement (WIIA) grant for crucial infrastructure upgrades that will protect local drinking water supplies from emerging contaminants.

Those grant funds will be used for the installation of advanced oxidation process (AOP) and a granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment systems at Stillwell Lane Facility Wells 20 and 21, which will remove 1,4 – dioxane and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) from drinking water.

Following today’s announcement, Nassau County Legislator Joshua A. Lafazan (D – Woodbury) issued the following statement:

“This significant infrastructure investment will empower the Jericho Water District to better safeguard the purity of our drinking water without passing the additional cost of these vital infrastructure upgrades along to ratepayers,” Legislator Lafazan said. “Securing this grant is a win-win for the entire Jericho community, and I thank the state and Governor Hochul for applying these resources toward addressing this pressing environmental issue.”
