Nassau County Edward P. Mangano honors FEMA Region II Representative and Roslyn High School Senior Sophie Friedfeld- Gebaide for her “Got Preparedness?” proposal. Sophie Friedfeld- Gebaide was selected by FEMA, as one of five new members for the 15 member National Youth Council, to represent Region II. The Council Members represent the youth perspective on emergency preparedness and have developed a preparedness related project entitled, “Got Preparedness?”

“Got Preparedness?” was created by Gebaide, a member of FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council, in hopes to engage America’s youth in disaster preparedness while providing them a fun and exciting way learn. Gebaide’s “Got Preparedness?” is a national preparedness YouTube competition that gives students in grades 4 through 12 the opportunity to become involved in raising awareness and educating the public and their peers about how to best prepare for natural disasters.

County Executive Mangano stated, “Through educational programs and exciting learning platforms, such as “Got Preparedness?,” students learn about the importance of disaster preparedness. It is thanks to members of FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council like Sophie Friedfeld- Gebaide that we are able to educate and engage our youth population.”
