LEGISLATOR WALKER ATTENDS CEREMONY TO HONOR FALLEN CORRECTION OFFICERS AND SHERIFFS

CEREMONY TO HONOR FALLEN CORRECTION OFFICERS AND SHERIFFS

Legislator Rose Marie Walker joined with other elected officials, law enforcement and union officials on May 6, 2021 to honor those Nassau County Correction Officers and Sheriffs that made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The ceremony was held at the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department Memorial Monument at the Nassau County Correction Center and was in conjunction with National Correctional Officers Week.

National Correctional Officers Week was first dedicated in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan as the first week in May. It is meant to honor correction officers nationwide for their service.

“Our Nassau County Correction Officers work tirelessly in service to the county, even during the height of the pandemic, our corrections officers reported for duty each day at the correctional facility where the COVID virus was circulating among officers and inmates,” Presiding Officer Richard J. Nicolello said. “I was proud to honor those brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice while in active service.”
