MAJORITY ANNOUNCES AMENDMENTS TO COUNTY EXECUTIVE'S BUDGET

Mineola, NY - Today, members of the Nassau County Legislature announced the Republican Majority's Amendments to the County Executive's Budget. These amendments add no additional money to the County Budget and put more money back into residents' pockets.  These amendments:

  • Cut taxes by an additional $50 million, bringing total property tax cut to $120 Million.
  • Remove $100 Million in fees incurred by Nassau County Residents. Red Light Camera Public Safety fee, and Tax Map Verification fee will be completely eliminated, Mortgage recording fee will be reduced to $50.
  • Cut Millions of dollars in Political Patronage Positions, including $1.1 million for 7 of the County Executive's Public Relations employees.
  • Create a County-wide rodent extermination program to combat an increase in rats throughout the county.

"The Republican Majority's amendments to the County Executive's budget cuts property taxes by an additional $50 million bringing the total tax cut to $120 million, removes $100 million dollars in county fees and removes wasteful political patronage positions in the county executive's budget," Said Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello. "I urge the county executive to support these measures, which will put more money in Nassau taxpayers’ pockets."

"The amendments filed today turn money from the County Executive's Public Relations budget, into additional fee and tax cuts for Nassau residents," Said Legislator Bill Gaylor. "These fee and tax cuts will help our seniors, veterans, and working-class families by providing much needed financial relief when they need it most."

These amendments are paid for by recognizing additional sales tax, cutting patronage positions within county departments, realizing savings from vacant but funded county positions, and capitalizing on lower than projected debt service payments.

Amendments will be passed at the next full meeting of the legislature on 10/18.
