[ARCHIVED] Legislature honors Top Cops for February 2023

Mineola, NY - On February 27th, the Nassau County Legislature honored four Nassau County Police Officers from the 1st Precinct as Top Cops for February 2023, for their heroic actions rescuing a victim during a fire in Roosevelt.
On November 4th, Officers John Tucker, Andrew Mirenda, Nicholas D’Attoma and Paul Simonetti respond to a call for a house fire in Roosevelt. When there, a witness stated that someone was trapped inside the fully engulfed house. Officer Mirenda got his breaching tool and tried to enter the house through a wall. After switching off using the tool, and with the aid of an off-duty Sanitation worker, they were able to break down the wall and locate the victim and remove her from the house. She was transported to the hospital for treatment.
“Thank you, Officers Tucker, Mirenda, D’Attoma and Simonetti for going above and beyond the call of duty,” Legislator Denise Ford, chair of the Public Safety committee said. “This is a testament to the fine training our men and women who wear the uniform receive that allows them to serve and protect the safety of our Nassau County residents day in and day out. Thank you again and thank you to all our great police officers.”
