Solages, Minority Caucus Salute Nassau’s February ‘Top Cops’

Top Cops February 2024 - Honorees with Legis Solages

(MINEOLA and ELMONT, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) joined his Legislative colleagues in celebrating Nassau County’s Top Cops for February – Nassau County Police Benevolent Association (PBA) Police Officer Anthony DiGregorio and Superior Officers Association (SOA) Sergeant Kerry Harracksingh on Monday, Feb. 26.

On Dec. 23, 2023, Officer DiGregorio and Sergeant Harracksing were working in the Fifth Precinct when a call came in that a 7-Eleven in West Hempstead had been armed at gunpoint. While patrolling in Elmont, Officer DiGregorio observed the black Kia Soul in which the suspects fled; he attempted to pull the car over, but it refused. Later, the suspects intentionally crashed into Sergeant Harracksing’s police vehicle while he was canvassing the area.

Immediately after being struck and despite sustaining a broken finger, torn rotator cuff, herniated discs and a concussion, Sergeant Harracksingh coordinated the law enforcement response and pursued the vehicle until it crashed into a parked car. Thereafter, the four male occupants fled on foot, and Sergeant Harracksingh and Officer DiGregorio each apprehended a suspect, while other responding offers captured the remaining suspects. Sergeant Harracksingh remains off duty as he continues to recover from his injuries.

“Thank you very much for your heroic actions in which you protected the residents of Elmont and the Third Legislative District. We truly appreciate your presence, your engagement, your involvement in helping our young people,” Legislator Solages said during the Monday, Feb. 26 meeting of the full Nassau County Legislature. “I pray for your speedy recovery and thank you for always being present in our community.”
