Trio broke into residence on Lincoln Avenue, kicking and beating victim before making off with safe
Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced today that three defendants have been indicted for participating in a violent home invasion that led to a police chase on the Long Island Expressway in November.
Malik Taylor, 21, of Medford, was arraigned today before Acting Nassau Supreme Court Justice Angelo Delligatti. His co-defendants, Mark Coleman, 23, of Selden, and Arlene Morel, 22, of Bay Shore, were arraigned before Justice Delligatti on Feb. 25, and Feb. 24, respectively.
All three were indicted on the following charges:
• Robbery in the 1st Degree (a B violent felony)
• Two counts of Burglary in the 1st Degree (a B violent felony)
• Two counts of Robbery in the 2nd Degree (a C violent felony)
• Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree (a D felony)
Taylor was additionally charged with multiple motor vehicle violations.
Justice Delligatti set bail for Taylor at $100,000 cash or bond; continued bail for Coleman at $500,000 cash or bond; and for Morel at $250,000 cash or bond. All three defendants are due back in court on April 2.
“These defendants are accused of breaking into someone’s home, then beating, kicking, and robbing their victim,” Acting DA Singas said. “Everyone in this county has a right to feel safe and protected – especially inside their own home. I thank the Nassau County Police Department for their quick action in pursuing and apprehending these suspects.”
Acting DA Singas said that on Nov. 17, 2014 at 2:58 p.m., the trio pushed their way into the victim’s residence on Lincoln Avenue in Mineola. Taylor, along with Coleman, punched and kicked the victim in the face and torso. The three defendants then took a safe and fled into their vehicle.
Shortly after getting a radio notification, members of the Nassau County Police Department’s Third Precinct located the defendants’ vehicle driving northbound on Willis Avenue toward Jericho Turnpike. The officers followed the vehicle onto the Long Island Expressway, where it exited on Route 106/107 and collided with a livery cab. The defendants were then placed under arrest.
Assistant District Attorney Martin Meaney of Acting DA Singas’s Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting the case. Taylor is represented by William Shanahan, Esq.; Coleman is represented by Lori Golembek, Esq.; Morel is represented by Maureen McBride, Esq.
The charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
