[ARCHIVED] East Meadow Man Indicted for Bludgeoning Wife With a Heavy Object

Hector Bejarano, 53, is charged in connection with fatal attack in April

MINEOLA, N.Y. – Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced the indictment of a man on grand jury charges that he killed his wife in April by striking her in the head multiple times with a heavy object at the couple’s residence in East Meadow.

Hector Bejarano, 53, of East Meadow, was arraigned on charges of Murder in the 2nd Degree (an A violent felony) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree (an A misdemeanor). Acting Nassau Supreme Court Justice Jerald Carter continued bail at remand.

If convicted of the top charge, Bejarano faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison. He is due back in court on July 9.

“Despite the tremendous gains women have made at home and in the workplace, many still live in the shadow of domestic violence and abuse,” Acting DA Singas said. “The alleged actions of this defendant are despicable, and cost an innocent mother her life. My office will zealously prosecute this case.”

Acting DA Singas said that on April 28 at approximately 4 p.m., police responded to a 911 call made from a residence on Prospect Avenue in East Meadow shared by Bejarano and his wife. Upon their arrival, police found Bejarano’s 52-year-old wife lying on the floor unconscious.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. After evading capture for two weeks, Bejarano was arrested by members of the Nassau County Police Department at his East Meadow home on May 14.

Assistant District Attorney Ania Pulaski of Acting DA Singas’ Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting the case. Bejarano is represented by Dana Grossblatt, Esq.

The charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
