Suzan Grossman-Kerner allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times
MINEOLA, N.Y. – Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced the indictment of Suzan Grossman-Kerner, who is accused of murdering her 79-year old mother this August in the victim’s Oceanside home.
Grossman-Kerner, 56, of Oceanside, was arraigned today in front of Acting Supreme Court Justice Meryl Berkowitz on grand jury indictment charges of Murder in the 2nd Degree (an A-I violent felony) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree (an A misdemeanor).
If convicted on the top charge, Grossman-Kerner faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. She was remanded and is due back in court on Feb. 2.
“Irma Grossman allegedly died at the hands of her own daughter, who now faces serious charges in this tragic case,” Acting DA Singas said. “Thanks to the hard work of the Nassau County Police Department, a suspect was arrested very quickly after this heinous crime.”
Acting DA Singas said that at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 17, Irma Grossman’s neighbors heard a commotion coming from inside her Terrell Avenue home in Oceanside and observed the defendant outside the house. Police responded to the home and found Grossman, 79, with multiple stab wounds in her neck and head. The victim was transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 2:55 p.m.
Nassau County Police Department officers discovered a kitchen knife in the defendant’s car, which was parked in front of the victim’s home, with what appeared to be blood on the blade. After a short investigation, the defendant was arrested by NCPD Homicide Detectives.
Assistant District Attorney Michael Walsh of Acting DA Singas’ Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting the case. Grossman-Kerner is represented by Todd Greenberg, Esq.
The charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty.
