[ARCHIVED] Hempstead Man Sentenced for Stabbing Death of Girlfriend

Alan Espinoza will serve 18 years to life for June 2015 murder

MINEOLA, N.Y. –Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that a Hempstead man who pleaded guilty to the June 2015 stabbing death of his girlfriend was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison today.

Alan Espinoza, 26, pleaded guilty to Murder in the 2nd Degree (an A-I felony) on May 2 before Supreme Court Justice William Donnino. Today, Judge Donnino sentenced the defendant to an indeterminate sentence of 18 years to life in prison.

“Alan Espinoza savagely attacked his girlfriend with a knife and took her life,” DA Singas said. “A 24-year old woman, with so much promise, was stolen from her family and friends. Domestic violence will not be tolerated in Nassau County and we will do everything in our power to ensure that perpetrators pay for their despicable crimes.”

DA Singas said that in the early hours of June 20, 2015, Espinoza was arguing with his live-in girlfriend, Neyvin Espinal, in their Hempstead apartment.

The defendant then slashed his 24-year old victim in the neck and fled. Hempstead Police arrived at the scene after a 911 call about the discovery of Espinal’s body at approximately 4 p.m. that day.

After an investigation, Espinoza was arrested by the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad in Hempstead at approximately 1:45 a.m. on June 21, 2015.

Assistant District Attorney Ania Pulaski of DA Singas’ Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting the case. Espinoza is represented by Joseph Lo Piccolo, Esq.
