[ARCHIVED] LEGISLATOR RHOADS ALERTS COMMUTERS OF UPCOMING LIRR TRACK WORK

Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads would like to alert Long Island Rail Road commuters about construction on the Babylon branch. The LIRR will begin working on the tracks replacing wood ties with concrete ties in March. Work will take place from Rockville Center Station through the Merrick Viaduct on both tracks. All major construction will take place on the weekends. Minor activities will take place weekday days and nights as required. There will be no service interruption and no weekend buses will be required – when work is being done on one track, the other will be used for transportation in both directions.

The schedule for 2017 work is as follows weather permitting:

Weekends:
• March 11 – 12
• March 18 – 19
• March 25 – 26
• April 1 – 2
• April 8-9
• April 15 (Easter) Saturday only
• April 22 – 23
• April 29 – 30
• May 6 – 7
• May 13 (Mother’s Day) Saturday only
• May 20 – 21
