[ARCHIVED] Mangano Announces South Phase Of West Shore Road Reconstruction Project Out For Bid

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced today that the Nassau County Department of Public Works (DPW) has issued bids for the reconstruction of the southern part of West Shore Road, the critical road between Oyster Bay and Bayville that was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy. In November of 2012, Mangano issued an emergency order to rebuild the damaged portion of the seawall and road. The road was reopened ahead of schedule and completed as promised by the July 4th holiday weekend.

“We continue to rebuild from the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy while also strengthening infrastructure against future storms,” said County Executive Mangano. “My administration successfully rebuilt West Shore Road's seawall and roadway that was most damaged by the storm and today we continue the rebuilding process.”

This is the second of a three-phase project to reconstruct West Shore Road. This southern phase will run from Cleft Road south to the Long Island Railroad overpass. Work will include the installation of new steel sheeting along the water, improved drainage, underground utilities and reconstruction of the roadway.

The project will begin in October of 2014 and be substantially completed by Spring, 2015.
