[ARCHIVED] LEGISLATIVE REPUBLICANS CONTINUE ‘GOOD GOVERNMENT’ REFORMS; PROPOSE FELON DISQUALIFICATION LAW

law

Nassau County Presiding Officer Norma L. Gonsalves and the Nassau County Republican Legislative Majority continue the fight to restore the public’s trust in government by introducing a law that would disqualify anyone convicted of certain felonies from holding office in Nassau County. The law would also prevent a felon from being appointed to a Nassau County board or commission.
“When a person steals, lies or commits fraud they forfeit any opportunity from holding a position of trust in Nassau County,” said Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves. “I am pleased to introduce this legislation as yet another one of the Majority’s reforms to increase transparency in government.”

Applicable felonies include accepting or giving, or offering to give any bribe, the embezzlement of public money, extortion or theft, perjury, fraud, tax evasion or conspiracy to commit any of those crimes.
