[ARCHIVED] Curran Announces Official Islanders Rally and Dome-Lighting Night Before Season Opener at Coliseum

MINEOLA, NY – Nassau County Executive Laura Curran today announced an official “Islanders Day” Rally and Dome-Lighting at 6:00PM on Thursday October 3rd 2019 at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building to celebrate the start of the NHL season and the Islanders’ coming return to Nassau County. Earlier this week, County Executive Curran joined with Governor Andrew Cuomo, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, and the New York Islanders to break ground on the Islanders' new arena at Belmont Park, the centerpiece of the $1.3 billion Belmont Park Redevelopment that will bring the New York Islanders back to Nassau County for good. In addition, Governor Cuomo announced the team has agreed to play 28 regular season games at the Nassau Veteran's Memorial Coliseum during the 2019-2020 season, seven more than previously planned.

In celebration of the good news and in eager anticipation of the Islanders’ season opener the following day (Friday October 4th against the Washington Capitals at NYCB Live, Home Of The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum), County Executive Curran will host the Islanders organization and fans of all ages for an “Islanders Day” rally that will conclude by lighting the County Dome blue and orange.

“Our Islanders are coming back home, and Nassau County is ready to celebrate,” said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran. “Ahead of the start of the new season and in celebration of the team’s return to Nassau, we’re welcoming fans of all ages to join us for a family-friendly rally where we will wish the team well and light the County Dome blue and orange.”
