[ARCHIVED] Statement from Nassau County Executive Laura Curran on Delaying School Taxes

MINEOLA, NY – I am pleased to announce that at my request, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued an executive order that allows me to delay the deadline for second-half school district taxes without interest or penalties. The Governor’s Executive order authorizes Nassau County to enact a one time extension of the deadline from May 11, 2020 to June 1, 2020. In accordance with Governor Cuomo’s executive order, I have issued a Nassau County executive order to officially enact the extension, thereby waiving any interest and penalties until June 1, 2020. This effort will provide some temporary relief for Nassau’s taxpayers, while we wait for possible assistance from the federal government.  Right now, there are far too many taxpayers who are uncertain about the state of the economy and their livelihoods, and I believe an extension to file during this difficult time is important to the financial stability of our residents and business community. I will continue to work within the confines of the law and the budget to provide relief whenever and wherever possible.
