[ARCHIVED] Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum, Village of Kings Point Announce County Support for Tree Replanting

(KINGS POINT, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) and leaders of the Village of Kings Point have announced that a County-funded portion of the Village’s ongoing tree replanting initiative is complete.

Through an inter-municipal agreement, the Village received $40,000 in County funding to purchase and plant new trees along roadways, replacing trees that were destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

“Eight years ago, Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc upon nearly every aspect of life in Nassau County. This recent investment in the Village of Kings Point further illustrates this storm’s lasting impact,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “I am pleased that our collaborative efforts have yielded environmentally-friendly improvements that will beautify the Village for years to come.”

“Since Superstorm Sandy, severe weather conditions and other natural causes have toppled hundreds of the beautiful, mature trees that enhance the bucolic setting enjoyed by Kings Point residents,” Village of Kings Point Mayor Michael Kalnick said. “Village officials are continuing to replace the downed trees with a variety of sturdy, hardy species that will beautify Kings Point for many years to come. Along with my colleagues on the board of trustees, we are appreciative of the assistance provided by Nassau County Legislator Ellen Birnbaum in securing a $40,000 grant that was used toward that initiative.”
