[ARCHIVED] Birnbaum Secures Passage of Inter-Municipal Agreement for County to Fund Great Neck Water Pollution

(GREAT NECK, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D - Great Neck) secured passage of an inter-municipal agreement (IMA) on Monday, March 22 that clears the way for $150,000 in capital plan funding to be allocated to the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District. The funding will be applied toward a feasibility study related to providing new sanitary sewers for properties in the Village of Great Neck Estates and the community of Harbor Hills.

The study will investigate the feasibility of connecting the mostly unsewered areas of both localities and determine the scope of the infrastructure upgrades that would be needed to connect properties into the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District's existing sanitary collection system.

“On behalf of my co-commissioners and the residents of the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District, I would like to thank Legislator Ellen Birnbaum for making it possible for the District to move ahead with this environmentally important project,” said Steve Reiter, Chairman of the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District. “Her support and that of the County will help begin the process of replacing nitrogen producing septic systems with sewers, to ensure water quality now and for future generations.”

“Nassau County’s sewers serve as the foundation for essential initiatives aimed at protecting the environment, preserving our quality of life, and safeguarding public health,” Legislator Birnbaum said. “I thank my colleagues for supporting a feasibility study that will equip the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District to make smart decisions that will benefit all of us.”
