[ARCHIVED] LEGISLATOR NICOLELLO OBTAINS SCHOOL SPEED AWARENESS SIGNALS FOR NEW HYDE PARK ROAD

LEGISLATOR NICOLELLO OBTAINS SCHOOL SPEED AWARENESS SIGNALS FOR NEW HYDE PARK ROAD

Nassau County recently completed installation of two new speed awareness signals on New Hyde Park Road near the New Hyde Park Road School. Working with NHP-GCP School District officials and local parents, Legislator Richard Nicolello obtained a county grant of $30,000 for the speed awareness signs, which were completed just in time for the start of the new school year.

“For the safety of school children, parents and staff, it is important to alert motorists to slow down for the speed zone on New Hyde Park Road adjacent to the school. It will be a permanent reminder for motorists to drive safely in the school zone,” said Legislator Nicolello.

The signals, which are located at the intersections of New Hyde Park Road and Lowell and Washington Avenues, detect and display the speed of vehicles as they approach the Road School. The signals are especially necessary at this location due to the heavy volume of traffic of New Hyde Park Road.
