PRESIDING OFFICER NICOLELLO APPROVES

COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

Nassau County Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello and members of the Nassau County Legislature approved an updated Capital Plan, which includes badly needed improvements to numerous county roads, parks and facilities that serve Nassau’s residents. This includes two local projects: The beatification of “Lions Triangle” in Mineola at Roslyn Road and Old Country Road, and funding for badly needed repairs at Christopher Morley Park.

The 2018 Capital Plan includes funding for a new police academy at Nassau Community College. This will replace the current police academy located in an old Massapequa school. Nassau’s law enforcement professionals have extraordinary responsibilities, including leading the fight against the opioid epidemic and gang violence, and working with federal authorities in the war against terror. The new academy will ensure that police recruits and recruits from other law enforcement agencies are trained in a state-of-the-art facility.  The Legislature also approved a study to identify options for an opioid treatment clinic.

“Government works best when it is working for the people,” said Presiding Officer Nicolello. “Recognizing that much of Nassau’s infrastructure is in disrepair, my colleagues and I have been fighting for these projects for years but have been frustrated by political infighting and needless delays. It is time to get Nassau moving again!”
