Mineola, NY – On May 9th, Nassau County Legislature Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello addressed a letter to Governor Andrew Cuomo, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins to urge the passage of S4524/A4950. The bill, which would install cameras on school bus stop sign arms, will help deter reckless driving, and aid in the safety of students getting off school buses by taking a photograph of the license plate of any car that ignores the stop sign. Those drivers would then get a fine in the mail.

“Every parent has witnessed a driver ignore school bus stop signs and put students in danger,” Presiding Officer Nicolello said. “I applaud state lawmakers for introducing this important legislation and encourage its immediate passage.”
