[ARCHIVED] NASSAU COUNTY LEGISLATURE ASKS GOVERNOR TO ALLOW OUTDOOR GRADUATION CEREMONIES

NASSAU COUNTY LEGISLATURE ASKS GOVERNOR
TO ALLOW OUTDOOR GRADUATION CEREMONIES

Urges Him to Change Guidelines for Public Pools

Following the State guidance that was sent out regarding Graduation ceremonies, Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello sent a letter to Governor Andrew Cuomo today asking that Socially distanced ceremonies be allowed.

Presiding Officer Nicolello said “I am asking that the Governor allow outdoor graduations to proceed with appropriate restrictions, including social distancing, face coverings and limitations on the number of family member attending. Our school communities can safely honor the achievements of our students with outdoor ceremonies.”

Following the closure of public pools in 5 Suffolk County Towns, Presiding Officer also advocated for the change of state guidelines regarding public pools.

Nicolello added “For many on Long Island, the local pool is the best form of outdoor recreation during summer months. Public and privately-operated swimming pools are a vital outlet for our residents, providing both opportunities for exercise, entertainment, and a reprieve from the summer heat. The pools may be safely opened with the same capacity and social distancing restrictions being applied to beaches.”
