Reiterates Demand To Open City Vaccination Sites To Nassau Residents

In the wake of news stories that New York City is letting vaccines doses go to waste, the Nassau County Legislative Majority has again demanded that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio lift the residency restriction that prevents those not living or working in New York City from receiving COVID-19 vaccines in the five boroughs.

Recent reporting from the New York Post indicates that New York City’s “15 vaccination hubs were ghost towns”, with 400 to 700 doses of the vaccine going unused at each. Unlike NYC, Nassau County has been administering 100% of its vaccines without regard to residency. New York State also has no residency restriction.

“It is outrageous that New York City’s incompetent leaders and selfish policies have allowed the desperately needed vaccine to go to waste,” Said Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello. “There are so many of our most vulnerable population, including seniors and those with comorbidities, who cannot obtain the vaccine.  While thousands upon thousands of residents are unable to schedule appointments, many of New York City’s vaccination sites are empty and the vaccine doses are being thrown away. This is an example of government at its absolute worst.”
