Nassau County Department of Health Issues Advisory Against Bathing at 2 Beaches

Nassau County, NY – Due to heavy rainfall, the Nassau County Department of Health is issuing an advisory against bathing at 2 beaches, effective today, August 11, 2023.  This advisory is issued as a precautionary measure for beaches known to be impacted by stormwater runoff caused by heavy rainfall.  Stormwater runoff can impact bathing water quality by elevating bacteria levels, which may cause exceedances of the New York State standard for bathing water quality.

*2 South Shore Beaches within Nassau County:

Hewlett Point Beach – East Rockaway

Island Park Beach – Island Park

*This advisory will be lifted at 6 a.m., on Saturday, August 12 unless there is additional heavy rainfall or water samples reveal elevated bacterial levels.
