On Monday March 21st, The Nassau County Legislature took the time out to honor Women’s History Month with the 18th Annual “Women Trailblazers” Award Ceremony and Celebration. Legislator Denise Ford chose to honor Mrs. Johanna Sofield.
Johanna Sofield established The Long Beach Christmas Angel organization that assists families in financial crisis in the Long Beach School District. Johanna has been able to raise and disperse over $2,000,000 directly to Long Beach families since its inception.
And just this fall, after being moved by a case involving a student in difficult circumstances, Johanna and her family have opened their home to this student, providing a safe and stable home.
It was my privilege to be able to honor Johanna as my “Trailblazer!” said Legislator Ford.
