[ARCHIVED] Help Prevent The Spread of Mumps

Help Prevent The Spread of Mumps

In preparation for the Long Beach Irish Heritage Day Parade and Festival on Saturday, October 1, 2016, Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford and the Nassau County Department of Health reminds residents that Mumps is still circulating in Long Beach and the surrounding communities.
Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford and Nassau County Department of Health advises individuals to take everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of mumps:
• Do not share drinks, food, eating utensils or other personal items that may contain saliva.
• Individuals who are ill with these symptoms should stay home, and away from public places for five days after the onset of symptoms and limit contact with others in their household.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water is not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue if you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow, not your hands.
• Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs.
