[ARCHIVED] LEGISLATOR FORD PROMOTES DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS

LEGISLATOR FORD PROMOTES

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Legislator Denise Ford would like to encourage all victims of domestic violence to seek help. The Safe Center Long Island is a local organization that provides assistance and support to victims of domestic violence. It is the primary service provider in Nassau County for victims of domestic violence and operates the only domestic violence shelter in the County.

Domestic Violence is a pattern of abusive behaviors by one person in a relationship to maintain power and control over the other person. The abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, or through financial actions, or threats that coerce or influence the other person. “I want all victims to know that they are not alone and there is help available. Please reach out for help – there are people available who care and can help,” stated Legislator Ford.

If you or a loved one is a victim of domestic violence, please call Safe Center LI’s 24/7 hotline at 516-542-0404. You can also visit www.tscli.org for more information and resources, including counseling for adults and children, and how to develop a Safety Plan if you are have exited a violent relationship or have recently left one.
