[ARCHIVED] WALKER AND RHOADS ANNOUNCE FUNDING TO REBUILD GAZEBO BUILT IN HONOR OF SLAIN SPECIAL AGENT

LEGISLATORS WALKER AND RHOADS ANNOUNCE FUNDING TO REBUILD GAZEBO BUILT IN HONOR OF SLAIN SPECIAL AGE

When Tropical Storm Isaias hit Long Island last week, the gazebo in Seaford’s Washington Avenue Park that was dedicated to ATF Senior Special Agent John Capano was badly damaged. Legislators Rose Marie Walker and Steve Rhoads announced at a press conference on August 13th, they have secured the necessary funds to rebuild the gazebo in the near future so the Seaford community can enjoy it and remember Capano’s sacrifice.

The gazebo was part of a 2014 eagle scout project by then-15-year-old Cory Levy who wanted to create a memorial garden to the fallen Special Agent.

Senior Special Agent Capano, a Seaford native, was killed in 2011 while attempting to stop a robbery at a pharmacy on Merrick Road in Seaford.

“Special Agent John Capano made the ultimate sacrifice to protect his community,” Legislator Rose Marie Walker said. “Eagle Scout Cory Levy made sure that his name would live on with this gazebo, and that no one would forget what he did. It is my honor to help the Seaford community rebuilt this gazebo to make sure Capano’s name is remembered.”
