[ARCHIVED] LEGISLATOR RHOADS ANNOUNCES CRP MONEY FOR VILLAGE OF FREEPORT

LEGISLATOR RHOADS ANNOUNCES CRP MONEY FOR VILLAGE OF FREEPORT

Legislator Steve Rhoads joined with the Nassau County Legislature in approving numerous community projects throughout Nassau County with funding from the Community Revitalization Project (CRP) fund. These projects, secured through Inter-Municipal Agreements (IMAs) help local municipalities, libraries, schools and other government organizations to obtain capital construction funding and secure valuable equipment to benefit their residents.

In District 19, Legislator Rhoads has secured funding for the purchase of portable radios for the Village of Freeport for use by the Freeport Fire Department. These radios will be used for fireground and inter-agency communications between members of the fire service as well as assist in improving response times and providing more effective coordination of operations at the scene of an alarm.

“Our volunteer firefighters deserve every benefit we can give them, and as a firefighter myself, I have seen first-hand how essential clear and reliable communication is to the success of any fire/rescue operation,” said Legislator Steve Rhoads. “Providing funding for these radios will help keep our first responders safe and assist them in their important work of saving the lives of Freeport residents in their time of greatest need.”

The final project allows the Garden City Fire Department to purchase portable radios for use during their emergency calls. These radios, replacing their previous out-of-date equipment, will allow the departments to coordinate and respond to fire and emergency calls and provide the best service to the Garden City community possible.

“On behalf of the Freeport residents, Board of trustees, and myself, I want to thank Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, Legislator Steve Rhoads, Kevan Abrahams, and Debra Mule for the grant of $ 150,000.00 to the Village of Freeport fire department,” Freeport Mayor Robert T. Kennedy said. “This grant will allow our volunteer fire fighters to purchase 30 new two-way radios for better communication and safety while fighting fires.”
