As many of you know, after Sunday, the AQUATIC CENTER will be shutting down for 5 weeks to continue and complete our major renovation, repair-work, and cleaning project.

While we are closed, those who have current memberships will have access to the Nassau County outdoor pools, as well as the Hofstra Pool for certain days/times. All information is attached in the flyer.

Also, during shutdown, we have another gym facility available for current members to utilize while the Aquatic Center gym is shut down. Please note that the facility does not have the same equipment as the Aquatic Center, but it does have a basketball court and squash courts to use. Attached is the information and directions on how to get to the Mitchel Field Gym.

Looking forward to seeing you all back at the new-and-improved Nassau County Aquatic Center in September!

Mangano Announces Lifetime Leisure Pass For County Veterans & Discounts for Active Duty Military

Mineola, NY - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced a new $25 Lifetime Leisure Passport for Nassau veterans to utilize the County’s recreational facilities. The passport provides discounts to pools, skating rinks, golf courses, tennis courts, beaches, marinas and cabanas operated by the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums. Active duty military, along with their spouse and children, will now enjoy free access to County pools and all the benefits of a Leisure Pass with proof of valid military identification.

County Executive Mangano stated, “After having given so much of themselves for our nation, this is the least that Nassau County can do to show our gratitude. It is my hope that we see many more veterans and military families enjoying our parks, golf courses, and all that we have to offer recreationally in the months and years to come.”

“This is just one small way that we can show appreciation for our veterans,” added Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves. “The county cannot thank them enough for all they have given to our great nation.”

“Improving the quality of life for veterans is a priority of mine,” said Legislator Donald MacKenzie, Chairman of the Veterans and Senior Affairs Committee. “Hopefully this will allow more veterans to obtain a leisure pass and enjoy some of the wonderful facilities we have in Nassau County.”

Exit Berlin Exhibit

For more than three decades, Luzie Hatch, a German Jewish refugee from Berlin, who lived alone, took the subway from her Queens studio apartment to AJC headquarters in Manhattan where she worked as an administrative assistant. The chance discovery of her WW II-era correspondence by an estate executor revealed that Luzie Hatch’s life was far from “unremarkable.” This rare and heartrending correspondence is the basis of Exit Berlin, authored by Charlotte Bonelli, Director of the AJC Archives, will be released in April. This exhibit will come to life and transport you back to a critical time in history.
