Fire care

This sequential, three unit program called Firecare was developed in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Office of Fire Safety Services and was prepared with two things in mind: The natural biological and emotional changes that accompany the aging process, and the varying degree of diminished physical abilities of older persons.

  • Unit I covers:
Fires survival skills, burn preventions, treatment of minor burn injuries, accessing fire, police, and emergency medical services, and home escape planning.
  • Unit II covers:
Smoke detectors, fires and burn injuries related to smoking and smoking materials, and kitchen safety.
  • Unit III covers:
Heating source hazards, mobile home, recreation, and vacation safety.
Each of the three units is in slide/audio tape format. A typical one unit presentation takes approximately forty-five minutes and is delivered by Division personnel at no charge to Nassau County Senior Citizen organization.
