[ARCHIVED] Nassau County Department of Health Issues Advisory Against Bathing at Six Beaches

Mineola, NY – Due to heavy rainfall, the Nassau County Department of Health is issuing an advisory against bathing at six North Shore beaches, effective today, July 23, 2020. This advisory is issued as a precautionary measure for beaches known to be impacted by stormwater runoff caused by heavy rainfall. Stormwater runoff can impact bathing water quality by elevating bacteria levels, which may cause exceedances of the New York State standard for bathing water quality.

Six North Shore Beaches within Nassau County:

  • Laurel Hollow Beach – Laurel Hollow
  • Morgan Sound – Glen Cove
  • North Hempstead Beach Park – Port Washington
  • Theodore Roosevelt Beach – Oyster Bay
  • Sea Cliff Village Beach – Sea Cliff
  • Tappen Beach – Glenwood Landing

*This advisory will be lifted at 7 a.m., on Friday, July 24, unless there is additional heavy rainfall or water samples reveal elevated bacterial levels*

To speak with a Health Department representative, weekdays, 9 a.m., - 4:45 p.m., call (516) 227-9717.
