Nassau County Legislature Presiding officer Richard Nicolello joined with North Hempstead Town Clerk Ragini Srivastava and the congregants of the Vaishnav Temple in New Hyde Park to celebrate the 73rd Republic of India Day on January 26th. The celebration included a flag raising ceremony and presentation.

Republic of India Day celebrates the adoption of the new Constitution of India on January 26th, 1950, and formation of their independent republic.

“I was happy to celebrate this year’s Republic of India Day and flag raising with my friends in the Vaishnav Temple,” Presiding Officer Nicolello said. “This day signifies a great day in the history of the 20th century, when the world’s largest democracy came into being. It is also a day to celebrate the many ways that Nassau’s large and growing Indian-American population have enriched the quality of life of our communities and residents.”
