Petroleum Bulk Storage

The Nassau County Department of Health reviews plans for petroleum bulk storage as delegated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation under Article XV of the Nassau County Public Health Ordinance. Plans submitted to the Department must be designed by a project consultant who is either a New York State licensed Professional Engineer or a New York State licensed Registered Architect.

To help expedite the plan review process, checklists are provided below. One is for aboveground storage tanks, the other is for below ground storage tanks. Use these checklists to ensure that your plans meet the necessary requirements. Below is also a fee schedule and several forms that are required to be submitted to the Department of Health as part of your application along with the appropriate filing fee. A letter from the property owner and the project consultant must be submitted as well. Samples of these letters are provided below.

For questions regarding petroleum bulk storage plans, please contact the Department at (516) 227-9691.
