[ARCHIVED] Nassau County Department of Health Issues Advisory Against Bathing at Four Beaches

Mineola, NY – Due to heavy rainfall, the Nassau County Department of Health is issuing an advisory against bathing at four North Shore beaches, effective today, August 11, 2016. This advisory is issued as a precautionary measure for beaches known to be impacted by stormwater runoff caused by heavy rainfall. Stormwater runoff can impact bathing water quality by elevating bacteria levels, which may cause exceedances of the New York State standard for bathing water quality.

Four North Shore Beaches within Nassau County:

Laurel Hollow Beach – Laurel Hollow
North Hempstead Beach Park – Port Washington
Theodore Roosevelt Beach – Oyster Bay
Tappen Beach – Glenwood Landing

To speak with a Health Department representative, weekdays, 9 a.m., - 4:45 p.m., call
(516) 227-9717.

For up-to-date recorded information on beach openings and closings, call (516) 227-9700.

*This advisory will be lifted at 8 a.m. on Friday, August 12, unless there is additional heavy rainfall or water samples reveal elevated bacterial levels.
