[ARCHIVED] Pediatric Disaster Management Core Curriculum Training For First Responders and Medical Professional

Mineola, NY - The Nassau County Department of Health’s Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) will present an educational program on Pediatric Disaster Management. The course, sponsored by the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) School of Health Professions Department of Nursing and the Nassau Regional Emergency Medical Services Council will be taught by medical professionals from various backgrounds. All participants must register in advance.

This unique course will provide training that will enable first responders to rapidly and efficiently deal with children in disaster response. Course components will include Introduction to Pediatric Mass Casualty Incident, Trauma Management, and Biological, Chemical and Nuclear events. First responders will also be educated on the unique psychological and physiological differences of children in stressful situations.

About the MRC:

The Nassau County Medical Reserve Corps, a part of the Nassau County Department of Health, was developed in the days following September 11, 2001. The Mission of Nassau County MRC is to recruit, deploy, and retain volunteer healthcare professionals who are able to contribute their skills and expertise in response to natural or man-made disasters and public health initiatives.

Practicing or retired medical professionals, such as doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, veterinarians, students in the health professions, and others, can volunteer for the Medical Reserve Corps. To date, the MRC has 934 licensed healthcare professional volunteers.
