Rules Committee Approves Construction Services, Management Contracts for Reconstruction of NCPD Second Precinct

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – The Rules committee of the Nassau County Legislature voted unanimously on Wednesday, Sept. 6 to approve a pair of contracts that will facilitate the reconstruction of the Nassau County Police Department’s Second Precinct in Woodbury, which was badly damaged by fire in late November 2022.

The seven members voted unanimously to authorize a $26,099,980 construction services agreement with VRD Contracting, Inc. and $1,483,520 for a construction management contract with Jacobs Project Management Company. Work will be paid for utilizing $33.575 million in additional bonding for the Second Precinct that the Legislature approved in August.

“Today’s action marks another significant step forward in fulfilling our commitment to rebuilding the Second Precinct as a state-of-the-art facility that will best position our law enforcement professionals to serve and protect the public,” Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) said. “We will continue to closely monitor the progress of this vital project to ensure it is completed expeditiously and in a manner that fully complies with all requirements for the engagement of MWBE and service-disabled veteran owned businesses.”

“In the time since the blaze which displaced them nearly a year ago, the men and women who serve and protect the residents of the Second Precinct have worked with tremendous distinction amidst challenging and uncertain circumstances,” Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan (D – Woodbury) said. “I am thrilled by the steady progress that we are continuing to make toward rebuilding this vital facility and returning the Second Precinct to a modern, permanent home.”
