Statements on Blakeman Administration’s Looming Transgender Youth Sports Ban

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – On Thursday, Feb. 22, Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman signed an executive order requiring “representatives from sports leagues will have to affirm in writing that trans athletes are not competing in girls’ sports to obtain the right to use the county-run or owned athletic facilities or ballfields,” according to published reports.

Following this action, Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) issued the following statement:

“It is utterly reprehensible that County Executive Blakeman has resorted to bullying and denigrating a protected class of citizens - Nassau County’s transgender community - in order to further his own career,” Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) said. “The equal protection of transgender people and other members of the historically marginalized LGBTQ+ community has been enshrined on the books in New York for years. Where our County Executive gets the misguided belief that he alone can usurp New York State law is beyond me.”

“If County Executive Blakeman did it for self-promotional purposes - which would not be surprising - then he has succeeded because the entire country has taken note of just how far he has veered outside of his lane,” Deputy Minority Leader Drucker concluded.
