Drucker Urges Residents: Sign LGBT Network Petition Demanding Reversal of C.E. Blakeman’s Trans Ban

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) is urging Nassau residents to sign a petition demanding the immediate reversal of County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman’s recent executive order banning transgender female athletes from participating in competitive sports on County-owned facilities.

The order, which was signed on Thursday, Feb. 22, has drawn swift condemnation from the LGBTQ+ community and civil libertarians, who argue the order is discriminatory and illegal under state law.

Legislative Democrats have denounced the order, calling it an attack on the LGBTQ+ community and an effort by the Blakeman administration to distract the public from the administration’s failures on core County issues within its control. In the aftermath of County Executive Blakeman’s action, the LGBT Network launched a petition to demand the order’s immediate reversal.

“As a proud and steadfast LGBTQ+ ally, I stand with the LGBT Network and the community in its outrage and resolve to see this hateful, unnecessary, and unlawful order overturned,” Deputy Minority Leader Drucker said. “It is all the more disgraceful when you consider that his exploitative and attention-seeking antics are all but certain to land the County in court and waste hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayer money. I strongly support the LGBT Network’s petition and encourage the public to join us in sending a clear message to the County Executive that he must immediately get out of the divisive culture wars and do the job he was elected for.”
