[ARCHIVED] Nassau County Department of Health Issues Advisory Against Bathing at Six Beaches

Mineola, NY – Due to heavy rainfall, the Nassau County Department of Health is issuing an advisory against bathing at six beaches, effective today, August 18, 2020. This advisory is issued as a precautionary measure for beaches known to be impacted by stormwater runoff caused by heavy rainfall. Stormwater runoff can impact bathing water quality by elevating bacteria levels, which may cause exceedances of the New York State standard for bathing water quality.

*Four North Shore Beaches within Nassau County:

  • Morgan Sound – Glen Cove
  • North Hempstead Beach Park – Port Washington
  • Sea Cliff Village Beach – Sea Cliff
  • Tappen Beach – Glenwood Landing

*Two South Shore Beaches within Nassau County:

  • Biltmore Beach Club – Massapequa
  • Philip Healey Beach – Massapequa

*This advisory will be lifted at 7 a.m., on Wednesday, August 19, unless there is additional heavy rainfall or water samples reveal elevated bacterial levels.
