(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – On Wednesday, Nov. 29, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced her request for a Major Disaster Declaration related to a substantial late-September rainstorm that deluged Nassau County.

The following is a statement from Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Lawrence) –

“Not only did this historic storm set rainfall records in Valley Stream, Elmont, and its neighboring communities, the flash flooding that followed displaced hundreds of vulnerable seniors and caused extensive damage to countless homes,” Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Lawrence) said. “This is a crucial development for all my constituents who are continuing to grapple with significant damage but have no path to compensation for their losses. I will continue to work closely with my partners in government to protect our region from extreme weather and ensure that we meet the needs of anyone who was impacted by this storm.”
