Legislator Solages Applauds Committee Approvals to Fund Dutch Broadway Traffic Study in Elmont

(ELMONT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Lawrence) applauded the committee passage of capital plan amendments that will deliver crucial resources for traffic safety improvements to Dutch Broadway in Elmont.

Members of the Public Works, Finance, and Rules committees voted unanimously on Monday, July 17 to increase the capital plan authorization for a traffic study focused on the highly traveled thoroughfare to $550,000. Final approval for the capital plan authorization and a $150,000 bond related to the project could come as soon as the Aug. 7 meeting of the full Legislature.

“Improving the safety of Dutch Broadway for motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists is an essential priority for my constituents, and I am very gratified that we are able to deliver improvements that will protect residents and elevate our quality of life,” Legislator Solages said. “I am looking forward to seeing this investment in our community’s future through to completion and will continue to advocate for additional infrastructure resources for every part of the Third Legislative District.”

Previously, Legislator Solages has secured traffic safety improvements throughout the Third District, including a traffic signal at the intersection of Dutch Broadway and Diamond Street in Elmont and new speed indicators on Dutch Broadway at Warner Road and just east of the Elmont Road intersection. In North Valley Stream, he secured the installation of a new traffic light for the Dutchgate senior living community at the intersection of Willow Lane and Lawrence Avenue, and a traffic light on Elmont Road near the parking lot for St. Boniface Church.

Legislator Solages is currently advocating for a turning signal that would facilitate left-hand turns onto westbound North Fletcher Avenue in North Valley Stream and is working with Nassau’s Department of Public Works to complete a traffic study of North Central Avenue. He is continuing to push the Blakeman administration to embark upon a traffic study focused upon Linden Boulevard in Elmont, for which Legislator Solages previously secured $1.65 million in capital plan funding.
