Statement on Displacement of Residents from Co-Ops at Elmont’s 1888 Foster Meadow Lane

Statement from Legislator Carrié Solages on Displacement of Residents from Co-Ops at Elmont’s 1888 Foster Meadow Lane

(ELMONT, N.Y.) – The following is a statement from Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Lawrence) –

“For more than five years, I have been demanding solutions to the flooding that has far too frequently disrupted the lives of the residents of 1888 Foster Meadow Lane – and I will not relent until this situation is made right for the hard-working residents of this community,” Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Lawrence) said.
“While I am tremendously appreciative of the efforts of our County officials, first responders, the New Hyde Park School District, small business leaders and the American Red Cross to aid the residents who have been displaced, we must stay focused on holding management accountable and getting to the root causes of what makes this property such a tremendous flooding hazard,” Legislator Solages continued.
“Just fixing the building alone is not sufficient. Because we have a moral responsibility to safeguard the health, safety, and quality of life of our residents, we must embark upon an immediate joint investigation by the Town and County into the area’s infrastructure so we can identify the vulnerabilities that have made this area so prone to flooding,” Legislator Solages added. “Furthermore, we must secure the necessary resources to ensure that the cost of storm repairs is not passed onto co-op owners – many of whom live on a fixed income. Our residents deserve nothing less - and they deserve peace of mind as soon as humanely possible.”
