(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D - Valley Stream) proudly joined his colleagues in government at the 15th annual National Haitian American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON) Leadership Summit, which was held at the Fairmont Washington D.C. in Georgetown from Friday, Jan. 26 through Sunday, Jan. 28.

NHAEON is a 501(c)(3) and a nonpartisan coalition of elected and appointed officials that engages in the education, empowerment, and political process to amplify the voice of the Haitian American community. Its members, who are elected and appointed leaders in 15 states and the District of Columbia, represent millions of constituents and advocate for domestic policies, legislation and issues impacting Haitian Americans. With his 2011 electoral victory, Legislator Solages became the first Haitian American to serve in the Nassau County Legislature.

“Across our great nation, NHAEON members work tirelessly as advocates for greater civic engagement, equality, equity and social justice in the communities that we are so blessed to serve,” Legislator Solages said. “It was truly inspiring to share this weekend with so many colleagues in government from around the country who share a deep and unwavering commitment to the principles of community service.”
