Nassau Hub Project: County Webpage
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran has made redevelopment of the Nassau Hub a cornerstone economic development initiative of her administration. Redeveloping the acres of parking around NYCB Live: Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and putting the property on the tax rolls is essential to job creation and growing the tax base.
The County’s Economic Development and Planning teams are diligently working to support the County Executive’s vision for a transformational live-work-play district in the heart of the County. A new Nassau Hub Innovation District would consist of housing, office and biotech research space, experiential retail, improved transit and walkable streets, open greenspace, and much more. In August of 2018, the current Coliseum tenant Nassau Events Center, LLC. (operated by BSE Global), announced their partnership with RXR Realty on a $1.5 billion plan that aligns with this vision. In December of 2018, a Second Lease Amendment and Development Plan Agreement were approved by the Nassau County Legislature.
To learn more about the development process, please view our presentations and project documents below. In the coming weeks and months, the developers will be reaching out to local officials and community stakeholders to present the plan for the Nassau Hub. Stay tuned!
“The county is committed to working with our partners in government and the community. This project epitomizes my vision for a real live-work-play district at the Hub and will transform the landscape of Nassau County.” – County Executive Laura Curran
March 11, 2019: The BSE-RXR team has been meeting with local community groups to discuss the proposed project. To date, they have met with dozens of groups in communities surrounding the Nassau Hub. On March 7th, 2019, County Executive Laura Curran announced the 15-member Nassau Hub Community Benefits Advisory Committee, which will be tasked with informing, recommending, and advising on the Nassau Hub Community Benefits Plan, including identifying how best to allocate funding and the total value of benefits.
The BSE-RXR team is currently in the midst of preparing their transformative development plan, which involves preparing a Comprehensive Master Plan and Site Plan, and securing approvals by the Town of Hempstead and Nassau County Legislature, among other tasks. The BSE-RXR team has 24 months to complete these tasks, with a deadline of January 7th, 2021. Construction can commence following these approvals.
