Legislator Nicks Applauds Committee Approvals for $162,150
CRP Grant For Westbury Firefighters Memorial
The grant is expected to receive full Legislative approval on Sept. 29.

(WESTBURY, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) secured committee approval for a $162,150 Community Revitalization Project (CRP) grant for the Westbury Water and Fire District to assist in the construction of a memorial honoring fire department members who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the community.

Funding will be utilized to add a new memorial on the east side of the Westbury firehouse and update the existing memorial on the western side of the firehouse to match the new work. The memorial consists of a bronze statue of a kneeling, life-sized firefighter, benches, LED lighting, 25- and 30-foot flagpoles, and brickwork around the monument.

“Three days before the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, it is especially impactful for the Legislature to take this step toward memorializing the men and women who lost their lives while serving the greater Westbury community,” Legislator Nicks said. “As a Uniondale firefighter, I appreciate former Legislator Siela Bynoe for initiating the advocacy for these resources, and I am humbled to have the opportunity to carry this worthwhile forward to what I anticipate will be unanimous approval by the full Legislature later this month.”

Legislator Nicks Applauds Committee Approval of $10,000
Hotel-Motel Grant for Westbury Arts
The grant is expected to receive full Legislative approval on Sept. 29.

(WESTBURY, N.Y.)– Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) thanked her Rules committee colleagues for voting unanimously on Monday, Sept. 8 to advance a $10,000 Hotel-Motel Occupancy Tax Fund grant for Westbury Arts.

The funds will be applied toward staging regularly scheduled art exhibits; administering their summer concert series; presenting a showcase of award-winning films; hosting cultural celebrations; and more. Formed and incorporated in 2013, Westbury Arts was created to support the revitalization of Westbury Village by delivering arts and cultural programs that “connect, educate and inspire our community.”

“For more than a decade, Westbury Arts’s diversified programming has given local artists a platform to shine and nourished the soul of the community that they serve so passionately,” Legislator Nicks said. “I am thankful to former Legislator Siela Bynoe, who now serves in the New York State Senate, for advocating for these funds, and my colleagues for voting unanimously to advance this investment in Westbury’s cultural vibrancy. I look forward to this worthwhile endeavor earning full, bipartisan support on Sept. 29.”
