Legislator Nuñez Invites Property Owners to Register for Tax Exemptions at Homeowner Exemption Liaison Program (HELP) Events
WHAT: Nassau County Legislator Cynthia Nuñez (D – Valley Stream) is partnering with the Nassau County Department of Assessment to bring the Homeowner Exemption Liaison Program (HELP) to the Lynbrook Public Library on Monday, July 6, the Elmont Memorial Library on Wednesday. Sept. 9, and Valley Stream VFW Post 1790 on Thursday, Oct. 22.
During HELP events, Department of Assessment staff provide homeowners with individual assistance with filing for veteran, senior citizen, Cold War veteran, volunteer firefighter and ambulance worker, and limited-income disability exemptions. Enhanced STAR applications will also be processed for homeowners already enrolled in the STAR program prior to Jan. 2, 2015.
All HELP sessions are from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Participants are asked to arrive no later than one half-hour prior to the scheduled end time for the event, and to bring copies of their 2025 federal and state income tax returns and other required documentation for completing the application.
“As a public servant, I am committed to empowering the communities that I have been entrusted with representing, and programs like HELP put money back into families’ pockets by connecting them with the expertise and resources to reduce their tax burden,” Legislator Nuñez said. “I strongly encourage you to attend one of these all-inclusive workshops to receive the assistance that will ensure you are only paying your fair and accurate share of taxes – and not a penny more.”
