(ELMONT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislators Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) and Cynthia Nuñez (D – Valley Stream) partnered with New York State Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages and the Diana Sanon Organization to host a community health fair at St. Bonafice Church in Elmont on Saturday, May 2.
During the event, community members were able to take advantage of an array of services, including breast cancer screenings on the NUMC mammovan, HIV and STI testing, cancer screenings, dental services, mental health resources, and more. Additional organizations provided Narcan training, immigration “know your rights” education and legal referrals, gun-safe storage demonstrations and emergency response simulations.
“Knowledge is power – and that is especially true when it comes to our health,” Legislator Solages said “Our community health fair was designed as a one-stop shop where community members can access resources they need in a safe and welcoming atmosphere. I was grateful to see so many people taking advantage of the opportunity.”
“Efforts to protect our health extend far beyond physical concerns, and this weekend’s community health fair provided access to a full range of holistic services that address the public safety, legal, and mental health needs of the communities we serve,” Legislator Nuñez said. “I was proud to partner with the Diana Sanon Organization and my colleagues in government on an initiative that delivered vital resources to residents.”
